Just before 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, several onlookers in Brooklyn were enjoying one of New York City’s sunnier days, when they witnessed a Mexican Navy training ship collide hit the bottom of the Brooklyn Bridge,

América Sánchez, 20, and Adal Jair Maldonado Marcos, 23, died when the tall ship lost power and drifted into the bridge.

Two people have been killed when a Mexican navy training ship struck New York City’s Brooklyn Bridge. According to Mayor Eric Adams, the vessel, named Cuauhtemoc, was carrying 277 people when it crashed on Saturday into the bridge. Of the 20 people injured in the accident, 11 were in critical condition, the Mexican navy said in a statement.
