The Trump Justice Department is urging a federal judge to give “prompt and careful consideration” to the long-shot bid by former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters to overturn her state conviction for Big Lie-related voting-machine tampering.

Federal officials said the review will evaluate whether Peters’ prosecution was “oriented more toward inflicting political pain than toward pursuing actual justice or legitimate government

The DOJ is probing the state conviction of Tina Peters, the first election official found guilty of a felony over 2020 election conspiracy theories, for "abuses of the criminal justice process."
