Earlier on Wednesday, the Toronto Maple Leafs placed veteran forward Max Pacioretty on the injured reserve list, retroactive to Jan. 18. That’s why the Leafs had to make a move and therefore recalled Jacob Quillan from the AHL’s Toronto Marlies in a corresponding move.

Pacioretty was placed on the team's injured reserve list and is day-to-day with an upper-body injury, Berube said on Tuesday.
