Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert won’t play against the Detroit Lions in the Hall of Fame Game on Thursday in Canton, Ohio, but Trey Lance will.

On Tuesday, head coach Jim Harbaugh announced that Trey Lance will start the game at quarterback.

As part of this year’s festivities, four players will also be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday, including Chargers legendary tight end Antonio Gates.

Ryne Sandberg, a Hall of Fame second baseman who became one of baseball’s best all-around players while starring for the Chicago Cubs, has died.

As Sandberg fought cancer last year, the Cubs unveiled a statue outside Wrigley Field that showed the second baseman in his familiar defensive crouch.
