Three U.S. Army soldiers were onboard a BlackHawk helicopter that collided with a passenger jet near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, U.S. officials said on Wednesday.

There are confirmed fatalities from the collision of American Airlines Flight 5342 and the U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter over the Potomac River. Several bodies have been pulled from the Potomac River crash site, according to two law enforcement sources familiar with the ongoing operation.

The Army’s Black Hawk helicopter was performing “doomsday” training when it collided with an American Airlines jet above Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, according to a new report. The helicopter was flying a route that’s part of a military plan to evacuate senior government officials to safety if the U.

No one survived the Wednesday night collision. The remains of 41 people had been pulled from the river as of Friday afternoon, including 28 that had been positively identified, Washington, D.C., Fire Chief John Donnelly Sr.
