Rangers likely to deal Reilly Smith with trade deadline approaching
Rangers' Reilly Smith: Won't play Wednesday
Smith will be out of the Rangers' lineup against Washington on Wednesday for roster management, per NHL.com. Smith seems to be a lock to be traded ahead of Friday's deadline and will now be sitting in the press box for the third straight game.
Sporstnet's Elliotte Friedman reported that the Rangers will try to move Smith to an American team, which makes a move to the Maple Leafs hard to envision unless he has not added Toronto, a bonafide contender, to his eight-team no-trade list.

But with change comes opportunity for some of the guys who have been waiting their turn. Adam Fox and Chris Kreider going on injured reserve, and Reilly Smith being held out of the lineup while Drury tries to trade him has opened spots in the lineup and given a chance to young guys such as Zac Jones, Brett Berard and Brennan Othmann.
Change is upon the New York Rangers. In reality, it has been since the day captain Jacob Trouba was shipped out to Anaheim.
