The Carolina Hurricanes won their first road game since Jan. 28 as they defeated the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 Tuesday night.The Canes got goals from both Jordan Martinook and Jordan Staal and then mostly shut it down in front of Frederik Andersen who stopped 24 shots in net.
The Red Wings (30-25-6) have lost three in a row in regulation for the first time since a four-game slide from Dec. 20-27, but they maintain the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference with 66 points. Alex Lyon made 28 saves, including stopping Taylor Hall’s penalty shot with 4:38 remaining in regulation.
The Hurricanes went up, 2-0, a little more than a minute into the second period. Martinook fired the puck in from Detroit's blue line. Lyon went behind his net to play the puck but couldn't corral it and instead, Jordan Staal swooped in and around the net, coming out front to sweep the puck into the netting before Lyon could recover.
