One of the biggest chips on the MLB trade market is being placed on paid leave just days before the deadline. All-Star closer Emmanuel Clase was placed on non-disciplinary paid leave in connection with an MLB sports betting investigation, per ESPN's Jeff Passan.

Clase is the second Guardians pitcher to be placed on leave. In July, Luis Ortiz was alleged to have wagered on MLB games after an alert from IC360 “referenced action on Ortiz’s first pitches in select innings to be a ball or a hit batsman in two games: June 15 against the Seattle Mariners and June 27 against the St. Louis Cardinals.”

As the Major League Baseball trade deadline approaches, the action is picking up. On Sunday Night Baseball, the New York Mets completed a sweep of the San Francisco Giants with a 5-3 victory.
