The blaze in the borough’s “most ancient forest” was the latest in a series of brush fires in the metro area amid record drought conditions.

A brush fire at Inwood Hill Park in Upper Manhattan broke out again overnight, but firefighters had it back under control before daybreak.

The fire ignited and spread rapidly across a large area of brush inside the park on Wednesday, and another fire in the park started around 2 a.m. Thursday.

The fires in the Northeast haven't caused major evacuations, but a Connecticut firefighter died battling a wildfire last month and the blaze on the New York-New Jersey border claimed the life of an 18-year-old New York state parks employee who was assisting firefighters last weekend.
