Houston ISD will allow teacher to use their December classroom walkthrough spot observation score to replace a lower monthly average spot score from September, October or November, according to the final draft of the proposed new teacher evaluation system.

At Houston ISD, about 190 uncertified teachers have left so far during the school year. She was accused of pocketing cash that she was supposed to deposit in a district bank account to support student athletics, clubs and other extracurricular activities.

"With ongoing teacher shortages nationwide, HISD is offering some of the highest salaries in the country," the district said.

The Legislature is expected to approve a teacher pay increase that would bring an estimated $38 million to Houston ISD — and non-New Education System schools would get most of the increase, state-appointed Superintendent Mike Miles said Thursday.
