(Seguin) – The celebration of Texas Independence Day returns this weekend to the heart of downtown Seguin. The Seguin Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas invites the public to participate in a Toast to Texas celebrating 189 years since declaring the Republic of Texas free and independent on March 2, 1836.
Seguin had just took possession after a Colleyville Heritage foul with the Panthers holding a slim 29-26 lead with 2:51 left in the third quarter. A technical foul, however, was called on the Seguin bench against what looked like some junior varsity players who were not suited up.
Xavier Arias (La Vernia/Nixon-Smiley) and Cooper Jen (Kyle/Hays) both finished 1-for-3 with an RBI single while Tyler Helpenstill (Pearland/Lutheran South) finished 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk. Mary Hardin-Baylor opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the first inning.
Seguin, Texas is now home to the first dual-branded Applebee’s | IHOP restaurant in the U.S. The new restaurant opened to the public on Feb. 18, 2025.
