Braves ace Chris Sale crisp in his spring training debut, but Dylan Dodd not so much
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Chris Sale led the National League with 225 strikeouts in 177 2/3 innings last season, when the Atlanta Braves left-hander won his first Cy Young Award at age 35 and in his first season in the NL.
Sale’s fastball touched 94.7 mph and averaged 93.8 mph, while four of the six balls put in play had exit velocities below 86 mph. The outing signaled a promising start for Sale, who is looking to build on his stellar 2024 campaign while putting last season’s late back spasms behind him.
Chris Sale made the start against the Twins Saturday and it seems that the bask spasms that he struggled with at the end of last season are a distant memory. The leftie, who first joined the Braves following a trade from the Boston Red Sox in Dec. 2023, pitched two perfect innings to kick off Spring Training.
Braves pitchers say Chris Sale's professionalism sets the tone: "It inspires us and motivates us to go out there and do the same."
