A powerful late-winter storm is battering the central and eastern US with heavy rain, snow and wind, canceling hundreds of flights and leaving more than 400,000 homes and businesses without power.

-A band of snow, or rain mixed with snow, will also stretch from Nebraska to Iowa, northern Illinois, southern Michigan, northern Indiana and northern Ohio. That includes Des Moines, Iowa, and Chicago. This could slow travel on untreated roads in these areas, so be sure to take caution.

Severe weather and tornadoes have caused many in the area to be without power. Storms moved through east Texas into Louisiana and brought rain, wind, and tornadic activity to the area and causing major damage.

Several residents in the East Texas area are reporting damage to their homes due to the severe storms. Several images and videos sent to our newsroom depict the extent of the damage, including some damage to a home in the Big Woods area.
