Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred announced on Friday that the 2027 MLB All-Star Game will be hosted at Wrigley Field. The announcement comes just five days after the death of longtime Cubs icon Ryne Sandberg, who was revered by fans for his play on the field and personality off of it.

Both a skilled fielder and a fearsome power hitter, he entered the national sports spotlight with two memorable home runs in a nationally televised 1984 game.

The Chicago Cubs have unveiled a ceremonial patch on their uniform to honor Ryne Sandberg one day after the Hall of Famer’s death. Sandberg died Monday at the age of 65.
