Crews are working to clear twisted metal, broken trees and muddy debris from streets and homes a day after monsoon rains triggered a deadly flash flood in southern New Mexico.

The deadly flooding earlier this week forced the Ruidoso Downs racetrack to move its horses to Albuquerque for a second year in a row.

Storm reports from the National Weather Service office in Albuquerque indicate floodwaters have reached homes and several roads throughout Ruidoso are covered with water.

"Nothing can prepare you for coming into a disaster zone and looking through the bodies of small children and my dad," Timmy Feagin told KOAT.
