Firefighters are working to control a wind-whipped brushfire that threatened dozens of homes in Southeast Maui.

More than 100 homes were evacuated in Kahikinui on Hawaii’s island of Maui after a wind-driven brush fire quickly spread.

Maui County officials issued emergency alerts on Sunday, as the Kahikinui wildfire grew to approximately 500 acres by 7 p.m.
