Fans are being asked to choose Utah Hockey Club, Mammoth or Outlaws for the NHL team's permanent nickname. Here's what the logos could look like.

The official team name of the NHL's Utah franchise remains up in the air — with another recent development throwing a wrench in the works. Entering the league for the 2024-25 season under the name "Utah Hockey Club," the franchise has had temporary name, jerseys and colors, with the expectation to select an official name by the 2025-26 season.

Smith Entertainment Group announced Wednesday that it will conduct another survey to determine the name and branding of its NHL team. Two of the proposed names came from previous surveys, while the third is new. Each name has a corresponding logo and jersey design, which are included in the survey.

NHL fans noticed some similarities between the proposed Utah Outlaws logo and the create-a-team logos offered in EA Sports video games.

The U.S. government struck down the Yeti name because the trademark request was too likely to “cause confusion” with the Yeti cooler brand. As long as they did not spell out “YETI” on their merchandise, they could use the name, but that wasn’t going to be worth it.
