NEW YORK (AP) — All live poultry markets in New York City and some of its suburbs were ordered Friday to close for a week after the detection of seven cases of avian flu, which has also hit farms nationwide, led to the slaughter of millions of birds and driven up egg prices.

New York has announced a temporary shutdown of all live poultry markets as the state attempts to contain the bird flu outbreak. CBS News correspondent Lilia Luciano reports.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the state is temporarily shutting down all live bird markets in New York City and Westchester, Nassau and Suffolk Counties through February 14 after inspectors discovered seven cases of bird flu in poultry.
