Thousands of passengers faced disruption at - or while trying to reach - UK airports when an air traffic control glitch led to more than 100 flights being delayed and cancelled.

London Heathrow saw the highest number of cancellations with 38 flights grounded. There were 24 departures and 14 arrivals cancelled at Britain’s busiest airport on Wednesday. Cirium confirmed to the Standard that the next worst hit airports were Gatwick and London City Airport.

Britain’s air traffic control operator says a technical issue briefly caused flight delays in Britain before engineers were able to restore the system.
