After a series of weekend street takeovers saw around 500 vehicles participate, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said Wednesday that many of the organizers, came in from outside of Charlotte.

CMPD made two arrests, issued 18 citations, seized five vehicles and recovered one stolen vehicle this past weekend.

The takeovers involved around 400 vehicles, multiple fires, fireworks, and dangerous stunts in public roadways and parking areas.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS) — An innocent bystander was shot, two people were arrested, and 18 citations were issued following a weekend of street takeovers, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Numerous people in several Charlotte area neighborhoods said they were terrified when groups of people reportedly took over nearly a half dozen intersections last weekend. Investigators with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said at least 100 cars started street racing before the crowd began lighting off fireworks and gunshots were fired.
