AUSTIN, Texas (KAUZ) - Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced Thursday that he would put over 7,000 personnel on standby ahead of planned anti-ICE protests this weekend. That group includes over 5,000 Texas National Guard Troops who will be bolstered by over 2,000 DPS troopers.

As protests continue in the U.S. over immigration enforcement raids, Abbott says he will deploy the state's National Guard as needed.

Noem threatened Biden for considering activating the Guard in Texas over governor's objections, but praises Trump for doing it in California.

As protests against ICE and President Donald Trump's ramped-up deportation efforts continue in Los Angeles, the National Guard has received orders from Trump to double their presence in the city. Likewise, 700 Marines have also been ordered to head to California despite Governor Gavin Newsom's vocal disapproval.

A lower court judge had declared Trump’s deployment illegal just hours earlier and ordered the president to return control of the Guard to Gov. Gavin Newsom.

A federal judge has ruled that President Trump’s call-up of the California National Guard was illegal, prompting an immediate appeal from the Trump administration. The troops will remain in place for at least a few days after the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals granted an administrative stay of the judges ruling.
